Two choices that both work
Offer a bounded decision without changing the learning goal.
Grades K–5. Keep options accessible and consistent with the task.
Try this starting point
- Name the non-negotiable learning goal.
- Offer two genuinely acceptable ways to begin, such as writing first or rehearsing an answer aloud.
- Give a clear decision point and check whether both options actually let students do the learning.
Keep in mind
- Do not disguise a threat as a choice.
- Do not offer an option you cannot honor or assume every learner can access both equally.
