Make the sound-to-letter link explicit
Keep listening, speaking and print connected.
Kindergarten–grade 3. Align the example with your school’s systematic phonics sequence.
Try this starting point
- Choose a sound-letter relationship students have been taught.
- Say a familiar example clearly and identify the relevant sound together.
- Show the letter representation, model the connection, and invite students to practice with an aligned example.
Keep in mind
- Do not introduce a random collection of patterns outside the instructional sequence.
- Adapt response modes for speech, hearing, language and motor needs.
